Mental illness isn’t a common occurrence. In fact anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental health problem in the US that affects 40 million adults every year. That’s 18.1 percent of the population.

The estimated 17.3 millions adults across the US suffer from at least one type of depression. In addition, the rate of depression that is major in adults is the highest for those aged 18-25.

Anxiety disorders often co-occur with depression. Approximately half of those who suffer from depression suffer with anxiety disorders.

Depression and anxiety are highly manageable, yet only 37% of patients receive treatment. It is because of a range of factors , such as social anxiety, shame, embarrassment as well as access as well as access to treatments.

Purpose of Mental Health Awareness Month

Since its inception by the year 1949. Mental Health Awareness Month seeks to increase awareness of the mental and physical health of people. In during the month of May organizations that deal with mental health are collaborating to spotlight mental health and to combat the stigma that is associated with mental illness.

One out of five people will be affected by any type of mental illness at some point in their lives. Even if you’re not suffering from mental illness either, you or someone close to you may face challenges that impact your wellbeing and mental health.

Every year during this time we offer support to those suffering from mental illness , and those who aren’t able to represent themselves. Also, we use this time to urge those suffering from mental illness to seek assistance. There is help available and there’s no excuse not to seek assistance.
